Leading Washington to an 11-7 victory over visiting Detroit on July 3, James went 5-for-5 with a homer, three runs and two RBI. He singled in the first, fourth, sixth and eighth innings while going deep in the second.
In 2024, James debuted in MLB with 41 RBI over 79 hits. Wood exceeded that showing to open 2025, when he racked up 17 homers during his initial 70 contests while booking a .900 OPS. On April 25, he notched his first career walk-off hit — a run-scoring single that gave Washington a 5-4 win over the Mets. Wood followed up with a .330 batting average in May.
