Rookie outfielder quality start in Angels debut on 2025 Opening Day. Set career high in strikeouts in 2024. He became first Japanese born pitcher to finish ninth in AL Cy Young award balloting since 2013. Throws and bats left. Throws mid-90s fastball and 80s curveball. In 2019 he became first Japanese born pitcher to record a strikeout in his first MLB at-bat in Japan Spring for Seattle in 2019. In 2024 he began his first season with the Angels.

Look at this guy posing like he's about to deliver the pitch of the century when he can't even get his uniform to fit right – that jersey's baggier than my old work clothes! And don't get me started on that wind-up pose… looks like he's practicing yoga instead of baseball. Sure, he had a "quality start" on Opening Day, but I've seen Little League pitchers with better form than whatever this awkward flamingo stance is supposed to be!
