📣 DAD’S TAKEON EARNEST BYNER

Look at this guy posing like he's about to run through a brick wall – which he probably did regularly at 215 pounds. That's what I call a REAL running back, not these prima donnas today who slide out of bounds to protect their manicures. And they got him in the 10th round? Shows you what happens when scouts actually watch film instead of just checking Instagram followers.

ABOUT EARNEST BYNER

Earnest Byner is one of those classic late-round success stories that makes the NFL Draft so unpredictable. Cleveland picked him way down in the 10th round back in 1984, 280th overall, but he ended up being the most productive rusher from that entire draft class with over 8,200 career rushing yards. The Browns got incredible value there, and Byner became a reliable workhorse back for them through some great seasons in the late 80s. He doesn't have rookie cards since those deeper rounds weren't really featured back then, but his early career cards from the mid to late 80s are solid pickups. Look for his better condition examples since those older football cards can be pretty beat up.

The big back joined the Browns as a tenth round draft choice in 1984. Since then he has been one of the most productive players in the NFL. In 1985 he rushed for 1,002 yards becoming just the second Browns player to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season. Earnest has been a key contributor to the Browns success over the past several seasons.

The NFL Draft used to have many more rounds. In 1984, there were 12, and Earnest Byner was selected in the 10th. Yet no player taken that day rushed for more yards in his career than the Cleveland back, selected 280th overall. His 8,261 yards far outpaced the next-highest total, first-rounder Greg Bell's 4,559.

The NFL draft brought Earnest Byner to Cleveland in 1984, where he quickly established himself as one of the league's most productive running backs. In his rookie season, Byner rushed for 426 yards and caught 32 passes. He followed that up with consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons in 1985 and 1986, becoming just the second player in Browns history to accomplish that feat. Byner's versatility as both a runner and receiver made him a key component of the Browns' offensive attack during their playoff runs in the mid-1980s.
