📣 DAD’S TAKEON AUSTIN HAYS

A one-year mercenary who barely made it past Opening Day before his hamstrings revolted. Twelve games into a six-million-dollar handshake and the White Sox were already calling divorce lawyers. The chrome finish outlasted his actual employment. Card 293 commemorates the most expensive two weeks on the South Side since they renovated the hot dog stands.

ABOUT AUSTIN HAYS

Austin Hays made his MLB debut on September 7, 2017, for the Baltimore Orioles, and appeared in 557 games for Baltimore over parts of seven seasons, slashing .262/.314/.433 with 66 home runs and 242 RBI. The starting center fielder in the 2023 All-Star Game for the American League, Hays slashed .275/.325/.444 with 54 extra-base hits that season. On July 26, 2024, the Orioles traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies, where he appeared in 22 games, batting .256. After batting .266 with 15 home runs for the Cincinnati Reds in 2025, the White Sox signed Hays to a one-year, $6 million deal with $5 million in 2026 salary and an $8 million mutual option for 2027.

This 2026 Topps Chrome base card captures Hays during his brief White Sox tenure. Limited to just 12 games in 2026, the former All-Star was let go by the Chicago White Sox after picking up an early right hamstring strain in an April 6 game against Baltimore, then suffering a more serious right calf strain.
