Look at this guy posing like he's in a glamour shot for the Sears catalog! Number 80 thinks he's hot stuff with that dramatic lighting, but those yellow and blue pajamas make him look like he's ready to serve breakfast at the worst IHOP in Los Angeles. And what's with cradling that football like it's a newborn baby? Tuck it and run, Hop!
ABOUT HENRY ELLARD
Henry Ellard was a speedy wide receiver who made his mark with the Rams after they picked him up from Fresno State in '83. This guy had incredible chemistry with his quarterback and was known for his ability to turn short catches into big gains thanks to his blazing speed. He was super consistent too, hauling in 50+ catches for six straight seasons and had his best year in '88 with 86 receptions. Since he doesn't have rookie cards from his draft year, collectors usually focus on his early second-year issues and any autographed versions. Look for cards from his peak years in the late 80s when he was putting up those big reception numbers.
There goes that! The two-time Pro Bowl selection of former Rams receiver Henry Ellard has been Speed-and-the-Rams have certainly benefited from his talents over the years. A former Ram from 1983-1993, Ellard caught 814 passes for 13,777 yards and 65 touchdowns during his tenure in Los Angeles. The sure-handed receiver was especially effective on crossing routes and post patterns, using his speed to separate from defenders. After leaving the Rams, Ellard played for Washington and New England before retiring.
Henry has been Flipper's top target since the Rams drafted him out of Fresno State in 1983. These guys have the synchronization down to a science. Henry has caught 50 or more passes in each of the last six seasons, including a career-high 86 receptions in 1988. He's also one of the fastest receivers in the NFL, so he can turn the short slant into a long gain.
These guys bear the world record for most receiving yards in a season by a duo. In 1989, Henry Ellard and Flipper Anderson combined for 2,644 receiving yards, breaking the previous mark of 2,634 set by the Chargers' Kellen Winslow and Wes Chandler in 1982. Ellard had 1,382 yards and Anderson had 1,146 that year, but it was Anderson who stole the show in the playoffs when he set an NFL record with 336 receiving yards in one game.
