ABOUT PAUL KRAUSE
Paul Krause is hands down one of the greatest safeties in NFL history, and that rookie season with Washington in 1964 was absolutely legendary. Twelve interceptions as a rookie, that's just insane, and it earned him Rookie of the Year honors right out of the gate. The guy went on to make eight Pro Bowls and still holds the NFL record for career interceptions with 81, which is a record that'll probably never be broken. Since he doesn't have traditional rookie cards from his playing days, collectors usually focus on his vintage cards from the late 60s and early 70s, especially anything in high grade since those old cards are tough to find in nice condition.
On the Vikings, Krause broke Emlen Tunnell's NFL record for career interceptions with his 80th pick in 1979. The Hall of Famer finished his career with 81 interceptions, a record that still stands today. Krause was named to eight Pro Bowls and was a six-time All-Pro selection.
On the Vikings, Krause found a home and the playing style and system that would make him a legend. He fit in perfectly with the Purple People Eaters defense, using his great instincts and ball skills to pick off passes at a record pace. His 81 career interceptions are still an NFL record, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
On his way up, Krause broke into the NFL with one of the best rookie seasons ever by a defensive back. In 1964, his first year with Washington, he intercepted 12 passes and returned them for 140 yards and a touchdown. That performance earned him NFL Rookie of the Year honors and a trip to the Pro Bowl. Krause has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times and has been named All-Pro on four occasions. The sure-handed safety owns the NFL record for most career interceptions with 81.
