THE BERNIE KOSAR COLLECTION
Base, parallels, numbered, autos — every Bernie Kosar card Dad’s willing to part with.
Look at this guy holding the ball like he's posing for his senior portrait instead of actually throwing it. That sidearm delivery everybody raves about? Looks more like he's trying to skip a stone across a pond than lead a franchise. And I don't care how smart he was – nobody who stands that casually ever won a Super Bowl, did they?
ABOUT BERNIE KOSAR
Bernie Kosar was the quarterback who turned the Cleveland Browns around in the 1980s, and man, could he read a defense like nobody's business. This guy had incredible accuracy and could make every throw you'd want from your franchise QB. Browns fans still love him because he brought respectability back to Cleveland during some really good years. He doesn't have traditional rookie cards since he came into the league a bit differently, but his early cards from the mid-80s are what collectors chase. Look for his key second-year issues and any autographed versions, those tend to hold their value really well with Cleveland collectors.
The Kosar legend lives as a quarterback who could quickly read defenses and deliver the ball with pinpoint accuracy. Bernie was the quarterback who brought the Browns back to respectability in the 1980s. A young quarterback who could make all the throws.
The Kosar slinging Bernie has a solid spring, completing 58.8% of his passes for 3,365 yards and 18 touchdowns in 1991. Bernie threw for over 3,000 yards in five of his seven NFL seasons and has completed 1,853 of 3,150 career pass attempts for 23,301 yards and 124 touchdowns. A Cleveland favorite since being acquired in a supplemental draft in 1985, Bernie is a former University of Miami star.
The Kosar storyline began like a well-tuned script. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Bernie grew up rooting for the Cleveland Browns. He starred at the University of Miami, leading the Hurricanes to the 1983 national championship. Then, in a move that seemed too good to be true, Kosar maneuvered his way into a Browns uniform for the 1985 season.
