Gabriel was a four-year starter at UCF and Oklahoma before transferring to Oregon for his final season. He threw for 3,660 yards and 28 touchdowns while leading the Ducks to a 13-0 regular season record and a Big Ten championship. Gabriel finished his college career with 184 touchdown passes, the most in FBS history.

Gabriel makes all types of defenders look silly. In the pocket, the signal-caller makes pass-rushers hit the ground and hug the air with elusive strides and last-second cuts. Refusing to let the secondary off the hook, he clowns coverage crews with one laser after another.

A savvy signal-caller, Gabriel turned heads with his advanced decision-making skills an ability to get rid of the ball quickly. The University of Oregon product confidently scans the defense from the pocket and delivers perfectly placed balls to all three levels. He's also an effective runner if the play breaks down.

In 2024, Dillon became the fifth player in Oregon history to be named a finalist for college football's top individual awards. He helped lead the Ducks to the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, while racking up huge numbers. Gabriel finished as the all-time leader in throwing touchdowns (college football division), he's second in career passing yards.

The Browns love Gabriel's instincts. "He finds a way to get it done. And that's so important," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "There's quarterbacks different shapes and sizes. You have to be able to move in the pocket. You have to feel the pocket, you have to find throwing lanes. You have to change arm angles."

Gabriel's film study includes Brock Purdy, Bryce Young, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa, Patrick Mahomes II, Steve Young and Michael Vick. This unique blend includes quarterbacks he shares traits with along with those he just enjoys watching, creating endless possibilities for additions to his game.

At the Senior Bowl in 2025, Gabriel represented all three colleges he played at. His helmet at the event featured Oregon branding on one side, Oklahoma on the other, and the UCF logo on the back. He shined at each stop and was at his best with the Ducks, winning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.
