Brock demonstrated his value to the 49ers in Week 1 of 2025. While leading the way in a 17-13 win at Seattle on September 7, he completed 74.3% of his throws and racked up 277 yards, including touchdown passes of 5 and 4 yards to open and close the scoring.

Brock is among the NFL's best at diagnosing coverages instantly, playing on time and delivering with anticipation that creates YAC for his receivers. In his first eight games of 2025, Purdy threw 10 passes on 748% of his attempts – the best rate in the league.

"Mr. Irrelevant" as the 262nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Brock has been anything but in establishing himself as one of the league's top quarterbacks after seizing the starting 49ers job. Purdy broke out with a 31-touchdown 2023 season. From when he took over as the starter in 2022 through the end of 2024, he averaged an NFL-best 8.9 yards per attempt.

One of Purdy's top qualities is his next-level ability to scan the information in front of him and make the right decision. That's according to longtime NFL analyst Greg Cosell, who said the Niners QB "is an elite processor, which allows him to throw with high, high levels of anticipation."

No stranger to prime time, Purdy looked right at home when the 49ers opened the 2024 with a "Monday Night Football" showdown against the Jets. Skillfully piloting one of the NFL's best offenses, the passer threw for 231 yards, hit his squad on eight of its nine possessions and claimed a 32-19 victory.

While not a prototypical mobile quarterback, Purdy certainly possessed enough wheels to consistently make plays out of the pocket. Over his four-season stay at Iowa State, the QB tallied 1,177 yards and 19 touchdowns as a rusher. That, combined with his on-the-run throwing ability, made him a feared matchup.

Tying his career best for longest touchdown pass, Purdy found Deebo Samuel for a 76-yard score during Week 6 of 2024. Off a play-action fake in the second quarter vs. Seattle, the quarterback launched deep downfield. There, the veteran wideout nabbed the rock and made a man miss before going all the way.

Brock is smart and accurate, known for his poise at all quarterback decision-making. He helped his 49ers to the Super Bowl in his first 25 starts. Was the highest-rated quarterback with the same team since 1950.

The 49ers made Purdy their franchise quarterback during the 2025 offseason. "When we took him with the last pick in the draft, we knew he had potential to succeed in this league, but we had no idea how special of a player he would become," president of football operations and GM John Lynch said.

In 2024, Purdy posted two games with at least three passing touchdowns and no interceptions, upping his total to an eye-popping eight contests in his first three years. The only other players to tally that many in their first three campaigns are Justin Herbert (10), Patrick Mahomes (11), Dak Prescott (11), Derek Carr and Jared Goff (eight each).
