📣 DAD’S TAKEON OMARION HAMPTON

Look at this kid running around with a mouthguard hanging out like he's chewing on a pacifier! And they took him 22nd overall to "mesh well" with Najee Harris – great, now the Chargers have TWO guys who can't figure out how to keep their mouth protection in their mouth. That powder blue uniform looks nice though, I'll give him that – too bad he's gonna get it all dirty rolling around on the ground with that sloppy ball-carrying form.

ABOUT OMARION HAMPTON

Omarion Hampton is the rookie running back who got exactly what he wanted when the Chargers grabbed him in the first round. This kid was smart about the draft process, focusing more on landing with the right organization than just getting picked early, and it paid off big time when L.A. called his name. He's got that patient, strategic mindset that translates well to the field, and being a first-round pick at running back automatically puts him in premium rookie territory. His rookie cards are already generating solid interest since running backs don't go in round one very often anymore. Look for his numbered parallels and autographed versions, those tend to hold their value best for first-round skill position players.

Hampton's versatility was utilized during his first training camp. Lining up in the backfield, the 2025 rookie ball-carrier looked capable of contributing immediately. The Chargers also tasked him with handling kicks, taking advantage of his ability to turn any touch into a big play.

— 2025 SELECT

Hampton joined the Chargers in 2025 with plenty of experience as a lead back. Over his last two seasons at North Carolina from 2023-24, the playmaker logged 534 totes. He proved himself capable of carrying such a heavy load, racing through defenses to the tune of 3,164 yards and 30 touchdowns.

The second and fourth-running backs to go off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft both boast home-brewed ability. Henderson housed nine of 12, 15, 16, and 69 yards for a resurgent Patriots offense.

— 2025 COSMIC CHROME

A running back with steady hands can turn an offense from good to elite. This is exactly why the Chargers were ecstatic to scoop up Hampton in the first round of the 2025 draft. Providing a new weapon in the passing attack, the rookie made life easier for his new signal-caller.

With the chance to chase glory elsewhere, Hampton stayed loyal to the Tar Heels for his final season. The junior out of Clayton, N.C., solidified himself as one of the country's best backs and the focal point of the Carolina offense in 2024, leading the ACC in rushing yards for the second consecutive year (1,660).

— 2025 PRIZM DRAFT PICKS

Hampton prioritized where he was drafted rather than when he was drafted. "You could go anywhere, but if it's not a fit, then you won't be able to produce what you can do," he said on The Jim Rome Show. In the end, he didn't have to worry — he went in the first round to a dream landing spot in LA.

— 2025 DONRUSS

The Chargers have fielded two Offensive Rookie of the Year winners since the award's inception in 1967 — Don Woods (1974) and Justin Herbert (2020). The third might not be far off thanks to the addition of Hampton. The first-round pick is a true three-down back ready to star in L.A.'s run-heavy attack.

— 2025 PRIZM

Maurice Jones-Drew ranked Hampton 13th on his list of backs going into 2025. "Hampton joins a Jim Harbaugh-led offense that loves to run the ball, so there will be plenty of touches to go around," the former All-Pro said.
