Art Monk Football Cards

About Art Monk

Art Monk was one of those receivers who just knew how to get open, and Washington got themselves a steal when they drafted him 8th overall back in 1980. The guy had this incredible work ethic and humility that his parents instilled in him, never took his starting spot for granted even after being a high draft pick. He became the reliable target that quarterbacks dream about, the kind of player who made the tough catches look routine. Collectors love Monk because he represents that era of Washington football when they were really something special, plus he's got that Hall of Fame pedigree that always holds value. Since he doesn't have true rookie cards from his draft year, his early second-year cards tend to carry a premium, especially in high grade.

Being the 8th overall pick in 1980 didn't mean Monk assumed he'd be a starter. He remembered what he'd been taught at home. Why parents always said whatever it is you want to be, whatever it is you want to do, you have to humble yourself just take they beat it.

Art Monk entered the 1991 season as the most prolific receiver in NFL history. The three-time Pro Bowl selection from Syracuse has caught 820 passes for 11,897 yards and 65 touchdowns in his 12 NFL seasons. Monk became the first player in NFL history to catch 100 passes in a season when he hauled in 106 receptions in 1984. He has caught at least one pass in 164 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in NFL history.

Dad’s Take on Art Monk

Look at this guy running around like he's late for church! Art Monk's got that "yes ma'am, no ma'am" look written all over his face – probably the type who actually listened when his parents told him to work hard and be respectful. Meanwhile he's out here making everyone else's kids look bad by actually following through on what mommy and daddy taught him!
