The Valkyries posted a 23-21 record in their 2025 inaugural season and made the playoffs, a first for an expansion team, before falling to Minnesota in the first round. Veronica Burton emerged as the breakout story, winning Most Improved Player after her averages jumped from 3.1 to 11.9 points per game following her move from Connecticut, while Kayla Thornton led the team at 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds and became the franchise's first All-Star. The 2026 offseason brought major roster movement: Golden State signed elite defender Gabby Williams (2025 All-Defensive First Team, league leader in steals) and center Kiah Stokes, while losing Carla Leite, Monique Billings, and Temi Fagbenle to expansion or free agency.
Where they stand: Through August 9, 2026, the Valkyries hold a 21-9 record and sit third in the Western Conference with the league's top-ranked defense. Williams is averaging a career-high 15.8 points per game and earned All-Star starter honors, while Burton continues her ascent at 14.7 points per game. The team lost center Iliana Rupert to pregnancy before the season and waived Kate Martin in early May.
