Back in my day, first basemen just stood there and caught the ball – none of this "enviable lateral mobility" nonsense. Save the acrobatics for the circus, pal.

Matt Olson is one of the best defensive first basemen in baseball right now, and he's been proving it with the Braves since they traded for him. The guy just won his third Gold Glove in 2025, becoming only the second Braves first baseman ever to take home that hardware. He led all MLB first basemen with 145 assists last season while maintaining a .996 fielding percentage, which is just ridiculous. His cards don't carry the rookie premium since those are from his Oakland days, so you can actually build a solid Braves collection of his stuff without breaking the bank. Look for numbered parallels and autographs if you want the better long-term holds.
