Look at this guy admiring his own home run like he just discovered fire. Kid's got the #6 draft pick pedigree but he's posing like he's on the cover of a romance novel. And of course it's for the Athletics – even their prospects are already practicing watching baseballs leave half-empty stadiums.
ABOUT NICK KURTZ
Nick leans into his "Big Amish" nickname, which was given to him by a teammate because he hails from Pennsylvania's Amish country. When he's not knocking extra-base hit, Kurtz pampering butter. There were plenty of opportunities to show off the move in 2025. His 64 extra-base knocks were the third-most ever for an Athletics rookie.
Nick captured the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year Award by delivering 36 taters, 86 RBI and a 1.002 OPS. The dynamic slugger fueled those impressive numbers with his high-level bat-to-ball skills and compact swing, which unlocks all-fields power. Always mentally tough, Kurtz profiles as a long-term MLB star.
Nick sparkles as a long-term foundational piece for the Athletics. His steep swing tilt and deep contact point let him quickly react to breaking balls and smack them to the opposite field. While booking a 1.002 OPS, 36 homers and 86 RBI in 2025, Kurtz showcased an offensive approach that boasts minimal moving parts and a rapid hand engagement.
Late in his 2025 AL Rookie of the Year season, Nick delivered an unforgettable snapshot: power. His September 13 grand slam against the visiting Padres let his bat climb into the ball at night. When it landed, cleared the bleachers by a mile.
Facing Houston at home on September 25, Nick delivered his third and final multi-homer game of the season. Both shots went to the opposite field — a solo clout in the sixth, followed by a two-run blast in the eighth.
