Kyler is one of only two players (with Colin Kaepernick) drafted in the first round of two different major North American sports since 1965. Sports Illustrated posting his No. 1 overall MLB pick signed a three-year, $46.1 million Rookie contract with the Arizona Cardinals. In the Year 2019, Murray's agent threw out the first pitch and started throwing at the league's start (final innings).

Smaller in size, Kyler nevertheless comes up big for the Cardinals. He's a shifty dual threat who extends plays with his feet and pushes the ball downfield. Murray demonstrated the breadth of those skills on September 15, 2024 against the Rams, becoming the first player in 50 years to have a perfect passer rating with 250+ yards passing and 50+ rushing.

The Cardinals with Murray are a team no defense wants to see next on the schedule. "I mean, night and day," receiver Michael Wilson said of the Pro Bowl quarterback's effect on the offense when he is in the lineup. "He is definitely the leader of the team and the one that makes the engine go."

Kyler locked in against the Jets in Week 10 of the 2024 season, going 22-for-24 for 266 yards and accounting for three total touchdowns. The Cardinals signal-caller completed 26 of his passes with 250+ aerial yards and multiple rushing scores.

In terms of buying time, Murray is the richest man on the block. Showing off his deep pockets while navigating the pocket, the sack-avoiding ace never runs into debt or a defender. Paying it forward, he uses his purchases as a way to get his teammates involved with rich assists.

There's not much time between workouts for Murray. "That's my life," he said. "That's kind of the max for me." In the gym, in the film room, on the practice field, the Cardinals quarterback is working on his game and getting ready to practice a whole season of eye-popping highlights.

The "off-schedule" plays by Murray look natural for him. But he works at it. He makes sure the entire offense works at it — receivers breaking off him or blocking up gaps, linemen holding blocks, everyone aware. "Practicing it as much as possible and … it's just reps, reps, reps," he said.

Kyler broke onto the NFL landscape with a 50-yard (or better) rushing quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft with American football's most explosive rookie.

The Oklahoma product has been one of the top QBs in the league since being drafted first overall by Arizona in 2019. Murray was the 2019 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice in his first three seasons.

Kyler is a spitfire of a signal-caller, tough to wrangle and even tougher to keep up with. The Cardinals star has run around and away from defenders in his seven years in Arizona, using his wheels to rack up 3,193 rushing yards in his career through 2025 — the 13th-most all-time by a quarterback.

If a generation down the road a star two-way quarterback emerges from South Korea, give Murray some of the credit. The Cardinals standout put on a clinic for young and aspiring signal-callers in Seoul during the preseason, letting them in on some of the secrets that have made him an NFL success.
