1, 2, 3, 4. That's where Prescott ranked on the franchise charts in some notable passing statistics as he entered his 10th year in 2024. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback stood first in completion percentage, second in touchdown passes, third in passing yards and fourth in victories.

Of all fourth-round QBs in NFL history, Prescott stood among the most successful, trailing Kirk Cousins and Sonny Jurgensen. In victories, the Pro Bowl passer was tied for third with Rich Gannon, each at 16, one behind Joe Theismann, 17, and legend Deland Cousins 83.

When Prescott is on fire, no one can stop him. And the Cowboys' addition of George Pickens in the offseason made the quarterback a candidate for an elite campaign. With both Pickens and CeeDee Lamb as targets in 2025, pieces are in place for the signal-caller to post his fourth 4,000-yard passing season.

As the Cowboys prepared for a season of change in 2025, they did so with the comfort of having a proven veteran in command of the most important position. Prescott has demonstrated his ability to deliver on the most elite level — like in his Pro Bowl season of 2023, when he led the league with 36 touchdown passes.

Dak blends sharp processing with uncanny accuracy and physical toughness for the Cowboys. He thrives in rhythm, punishes blitzes and uses his deceptive strength as a runner to finish drives. Steady, smart and fiercely competitive, he's the engine that keeps Dallas' offense balanced and dangerous.

Dak stays in full command, adjusting to a defensive look by motioning to his receivers and barking signals to his blockers. When the ball is snapped, his agility and savvy take over. Prescott feels the pocket shrinking but doesn't shrivel, instead delivering dimes to open targets down the field.

Dak surged past a pair of all-time Cowboys greats in 2025, zipping by Tony Romo to have the most passing yards in Dallas history. Prescott ended a comeback from a 27-point deficit against the Eagles in a 24-21 victory on November 23. He threw for 354 yards to end the day with 34,378, breaking Romo's mark set nine years ago.

As his career has progressed, Prescott has aged like fine wine. And the 2023 version was a memorable vintage. In his eighth season, the QB made the Pro Bowl for the third time after leading the league in both completions (410) and touchdown passes (36), while posting his second-best passing yards total (4,516).

Battling the Steelers in Pittsburgh is no easy feat. Doing so after a 90-minute weather delay is nearly impossible. Prescott beat the odds in Week 5 of 2024, though. Trailing late, the star passer mounted a 15-play, 70-yard drive and tossed a go-ahead touchdown pass with 20 seconds to spare. The Cowboys won, 20-17.

Prescott's actual first name is Rayne (like rain), although he stopped using it when they kept mispronouncing it in school as a kid. That's why he turned to his middle name, Dakota, or Dak. Today he calls himself the Cowboys' starting QB and one of the NFL's best as a three-time Pro Bowl honoree.

Almost every team in the NFL looks to the Cowboys with envy when it comes to the quarterback position. Dallas continuously finds gem signal-callers, including Prescott, who has skyrocketed up the franchise leaderboards in a number of categories since taking over the gig from another star in Tony Romo.

The Cowboys went on a tear in the middle of the 2023 season. And Prescott playing some of the best ball of his career was a major factor in that success. In Week 8, he threw for four touchdowns and 304 yards in a win over the Rams, and then went for 404 with four more scores two weeks later vs. the Giants.

Prescott made it look easy in the 2019 opener vs. the Giants, throwing for 405 yards and four touchdowns during the Cowboys' 35-17 victory. That made him the first quarterback in franchise history to pass for 400 yards in a Week 1 contest. "He's just in complete control of this offense," said tight end Jason Witten.
