The Jets went 5-12 in 2024 after Aaron Rodgers returned from his Achilles injury, despite adding Davante Adams and Mike Williams, then bottomed out at 3-14 in 2025 under new head coach Aaron Glenn. The team released Rodgers after 2024 and signed Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal in 2025, but Fields was traded to Kansas City after another lost season. For 2026, the Jets brought back Geno Smith as their starting quarterback, a surprising return for the veteran who struggled early in his Jets career years ago.

The franchise overhauled the roster this offseason, adding veterans Joseph Ossai, Demario Davis and Minkah Fitzpatrick while drafting edge rusher David Bailey at No. 2 overall, tight end Kenyon Sadiq at No. 16, receiver Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 30, and cornerback D'Angelo Ponds at No. 50. Training camp opened July 29, with the team set to host joint practices with Tampa Bay before their preseason opener on August 14.
