Baker resurrected his career in Tampa Bay, following up a 28-touchdown effort in 2023 by throwing for a career-best 41 in 2024. Mayfield starred early in a 2025 shootout with Seattle, completing 29-of-33 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-35 win. His 87.9% completion percentage was the league's highest mark in the season's first five weeks.

Baker's terrific start to 2025 included a sterling game on October 5 in Seattle, where he registered a 134.7 passer rating amid a 38-35 victory for the Buccaneers. Mayfield connected on almost every throw (29-of-33 passing) while amassing 379 yards.

As a Buccaneer, Mayfield quickly flourished. He came through as a daring thrower who also commanded a polished offense that triggered excitement among fans. "Highly, highly respected," NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell said. "He's a really good thrower of the football. … He's become a very good quarterback."

After lighting it up for 27 touchdown passes as a rookie last season, Mayfield kicked off his 2019 sophomore campaign with a score against Tennessee in Week 1. Taking the snap in shotgun formation, he promptly zipped a frozen rope into a tight window over the middle to David Njoku, who held on for a 3-yard TD.
