THE RICKEY HENDERSON COLLECTION
Base, parallels, numbered, autos — every Rickey Henderson card Dad’s willing to part with.
Look at Mr. Showboat here pointing at the sky like he just cured cancer when all he did was steal a base. And of course he's wearing number 24 – probably made them retire every other number in the clubhouse because none of them were "worthy" enough. Breaking Lou Brock's record and immediately declaring yourself the greatest of all time? That's the kind of humility that makes me want to change the channel.
ABOUT RICKEY HENDERSON
Oh man, Rickey Henderson. This guy is absolutely the greatest base stealer who ever lived, and it's not even close. He broke Lou Brock's record back in 1991 when he swiped his 939th base against the Yankees, then literally ripped third base out of the ground and held it up like a trophy. The man finished with 1,406 stolen bases, which is just an untouchable number that'll probably stand forever. His A's cards are always popular with collectors, and you'll want to hunt down his early 1980s stuff since those are his true rookies and they command serious money in high grade.
Rickey eyed third base in the fourth inning of a 1991 game against the Yankees, sliding in head-first safely before ripping the bag out of the ground and holding it aloft. He'd just affirmed his status as the "Man of Steal," breaking Lou Brock's MLB record by swiping his 939th base. "Lou Brock was the symbol of basestealing," Henderson said to the crowd, "but today I'm the greatest of all time." He finished his career with an untouchable 1,406 thefts.
