ABOUT MATT WILKINSON
Matthew James Wilkinson (born December 10, 2002) is a Canadian professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). Originally drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in the 10th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft, the Guardians traded Wilkinson and a compensatory draft pick in the 2026 MLB draft to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Patrick Bailey in May 2026. A 10th-round pick by Cleveland in 2023, he rose quickly after a May trade to San Francisco, posting a combined 3.40 ERA with 96 strikeouts over 90 innings between Double-A and Triple-A, though in ten starts for the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, he posted a 5.15 ERA with 43 strikeouts.
Nicknamed Tugboat, he made his MLB debut in 2026 on August 19, Wilkinson was promoted to the major leagues for the first time. He made his debut later that day, tossing two scoreless innings. Matt Wilkinson finished 2026 with a 1-3 record, 3.58 ERA in 8 games and 6 starts, pitching 27.2 innings with 20 strikeouts.
