Jahmyr solidified himself as one of the league's top backs by earning his second straight Pro Bowl nod in 2024. He had the third-most scrimmage yards behind Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry and set Detroit's record for touchdowns in a season. Gibbs averaged 134.8 yards over the Lions' final five games.

Jahmyr wore many hats in Detroit: 34-27 overtime rushing yards against the Giants in Week 12 of the 2025 season, 10+ receptions in a game. Gibbs ran for 819 yards and had 12 catches for 45 more yards, scoring three times to earn NFC Offensive Player of the week honors.

Gibbs has the full endorsement of the Lions' greatest living legend as he tries to bring them a long-sought Super Bowl. "You see what Jahmyr Gibbs was able to do last season, really from the time, the last two years that he's been here," Barry Sanders said. "But I felt like last year was more of a breakout season for him."

The player profile for Gibbs includes high touchdown numbers. After 23 in college, including 10 in his year at Alabama, he put up 11 from scrimmage as a Lions rookie. His second season in 2024 almost doubled that total. His 16 on the ground and four through the air made him the league leader.

Gibbs earned Pro Bowl recognition in each of his first two seasons in the league, a remarkable feat made possible thanks in part to his elite nose for the end zone. Over those first two campaigns in 2023-24, the Detroit speedster tallied 26 scores on the ground and another five as a receiver.

Jahmyr has showcased endless talent as the versatile, do-it-all offensive weapon for the Lions, setting a franchise record with 20 total touchdowns in his second season in the NFL. Gibbs led all rookies with 10 rushing TDs in 2023.

After putting up 1,929 yards of offense and 20 total touchdowns in his second season, Gibbs was eager to add more wrinkles to his game in 2025. To satiate his playmaking appetite, the Lions had the star back work with the wide receivers in camp. "That's going to be fun," Gibbs said. "I've been waiting on that."

Gibbs was the catalyst for the NFL's highest-scoring unit during the 2024 campaign. A weapon on the ground and through the air, the second-year star finished the season with 1,929 all-purpose yards — the best single-season total for a Detroit running back since Barry Sanders put up 2,358 yards in 1997.

It took less than two pro years for Gibbs to knock Derrick Henry out of the record books. The rising Lions star rushed for 65 yards on 11 carries in a Week 9 of 2024 win over Green Bay. His 5.9 yards-per-carry average marked his seventh straight game over 5.0 — one better than Henry's previous NFL mark.

After rushing for a touchdown in his playoff debut, Gibbs added another score in a divisional-round win over Tampa Bay on Jan. 21, 2024. The back-to-back performances made the rookie back the fifth player in Lions history to rush for multiple touchdowns in a postseason and the first since Billy Sims.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell was on the staff in New Orleans when it drafted Alvin Kamara. He believes Gibbs shares a similar skill set with the star back. "Gibbs has got these traits, these qualities about him," he said. "He's highly intelligent, he is explosive, he does have versatility. So, we're excited about our guy."
