Look at this guy posing like he's some kind of superhero with those ridiculous blue flame effects – what is this, a comic book? And they're comparing him to an actual lion when he looks more like someone who spends too much time at the hair salon than prowling the savanna. Back in my day, football cards just showed players catching footballs, not floating around in some fantasy fire show!
ABOUT CALVIN JOHNSON
Oh man, Calvin Johnson, now there's a legend for you. This Lions wide receiver was absolutely unstoppable during his career, one of those guys who could make impossible catches look routine and turn any pass into a potential touchdown. Defenders basically had two bad choices when facing him, try to cover this monster of a receiver or watch him haul in another spectacular grab over their heads. Johnson was the kind of player who could single-handedly change a game with his incredible size, speed, and hands. His cards hold solid value even without rookie status, so definitely hunt for the numbered parallels and premium inserts if you're building a collection around him.
Johnson, nicknamed "Megatron," was a dominant wide receiver for the Detroit Lions from 2007 to 2015. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro. In 2012, Johnson set the NFL single-season receiving yards record with 1,964 yards. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

Johnson could uncover anywhere on the field. He beat defenders with flowing strides vertically and on long crossing routes, caught passes underneath and racked up YAC, and leaped over defensive backs to pull in jump balls. He earned three consecutive First Team All-Pro selections from 2011-13.

Johnson loved to fly (verb), soaring above the green surface to go up and get passes. He was also fly (adjective), the coolest guy on the field who everyone wanted to be. Like The Fly (Jeff Goldblum), he morphed his body to make insane catches that shocked fans and foes alike.

After a standout career at Georgia Tech, Johnson was one of the most eagerly anticipated prospects in the 2007 draft class. The receiver exceeded all expectations in his rookie campaign, averaging 15.9 yards per catch and hauling in 4 touchdown grabs in the Lions' bright future.

Johnson has been selected to the Pro Bowl six times and was named First-Team All-Pro twice. At 6'5" and 237 pounds, Johnson uses his size and speed to dominate opposing defenses.

In 2024, Michigan declared Sept. 30 "Megatron Day" in honor of Johnson's induction into the Pride of the Lions. Really, though, every time the sensational wideout took the field was "Megatron Day."
